Development of Citarum Harum Biodiversity Park PT Pupuk Kujang Project Commitment to Sustainable Development Goals SDGs INTRODUCTION The Citarum Harum Biodiversity Park was built by PT Pupuk Kujang and the Citarum Harum Sector 19 Task Force in 2020. The aim is to improve the water quality of the Citarum River by planting trees, building infrastructure for ecotourism activities, and educating the community. Pupuk Kujang is committed to developing environmentally-friendly infrastructure technology in the park, namely wind and solar power plants which pump water from the river to be used for toilets and watering needs. The toilets are equipped with bioreactor and biofilter technology to process wastewater from domestic activities into clean water as a realisation of waste management. Moreover, PT Pupuk Kujang hopes that this programme can become an ecotourism destination for the community as well. The development of ecotourism has several advantages such as preserving the ecosystem, increasing community welfare, increasing understanding of environmental, biodiversity, cultural conservation, and local culture as well as stimulating economic growth. FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY The initial step in implementing this activity is to carry out a site survey together with the Citarum Harum Sector 19 Task Force. Besides this, PT Pupuk Kujang carries out socialisation to the surrounding community for the construction of the Citarum Harum Biodiversity Park that is in collaboration with Diponegoro University to design environmentally-friendly technology. Moreover, PT Pupuk Kujang also educates the community to behave in a caring manner towards the environment with the tree planting activity together with the Citarum Harum Sector 19 Task Force and the surrounding community. PT Pupuk Kujang is one of the fertiliser plants in Indonesia that supports government programmes in food security. The contribution of Pupuk Kujang in this programme is to provide fertiliser assistance, plants, and education related to the use of environmentally friendly fertilisers that align with the CSR realisation. ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT The Biodiversity Park is located on the banks of the Citarum River which is dry and barren when in the dry season. In 2018, various types of trees have been planted which have been selected according to their respective themes. Moreover, the Biodiversity Park experienced an increase in species richness, the number of trees, and diversity indices. The biodiversity index of flora species in the fragrant Citarum Biodiversity Park has increased from 1,911 in 2018 to 2,931 in 2020. The increase of the biodiversity index has also succeeded in raising the level of public awareness to protect the river ecosystem such as the importance of using green space as a water catchment area by planting bamboo trees, perennials, fruit plants, and vegetable crops. Furthermore, the Citarum Biodiversity Park is one of the ecotourism destinations that increased the income of the surrounding community by building food stalls around the area. FUTURE DIRECTION The ecosystem lake restoration supports central government programmes. In the future, this activity will also be carried out in Rawa Pening lake, Central Java with the goal of reducing the negative impact of water hyacinth weed overpopulation by making handicrafts that have high economic value. PT Pupuk Kujang is a subsidiary of fertiliser state-owned enterprise, PT Pupuk Indonesia. Pupuk Kujang is not only carrying out production activities for commercial purposes but also government programmes in distributing subsidised fertilisers and supporting food security programmes initiated by the government. PT Pupuk Kujang produces fertilisers such as urea, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium NPK, organics, and potassium chloride KCL. Additionally, they provide rice seeds, ammonia, and liquid carbon dioxide CO2.
